Research and planning audience feedback on covers

These are the feedbacks from audience I have noted down on the drafts. The first comment is positive, Taslime said the masthead is bold and attractive so its something she would pick up. Therefore, I wouldn't need to change anything about the masthead.

Another comment by Taslima was that I should add more stories and pictures related One Direction. I will keep this in mind when improving these drafts.
A comment by Faith was that I should have more interviews with celebrities and models. I will keep this in mind when improving these drafts.
There were no negative comments about the contents page therefore, I won't need need to change the colours or the layout.
One of the students said I should have Justin Bieber on my magazine so I decided to put a picture of him on the contents page because there is enough space for images.

This is the draft of the double page spread and one of the students Faith said that I should change the layout because its too simple. I will keep this in mind when improving the drafts.
And Taslima said I should add colour to it like the cover and the contents page to make it more attractive and so that it looks like its from the from the same magazine.

Research and planning production schedule

This is the production schedule that I have filled in using yellow which indicates that on that day I will do the task at the the side. I have used excel to do this and according to the schedule I will have finished all the tasks by week 14 on a Tuesday. This is just to help me to keep track of when I should finish a task. The days can change for when I finish the tasks and I will record any changes in my evaluation.

Research and planning audience feedback videos

Today I created the first draft of my music magazine cover, contents page and double page spread analysis then I asked 3 students from my college some questions on the drafts about colours I have used, about the layouts and their opinion on them. While I was recording my audience I gave my magazine covers to them and asked them the questions. Now I will use these answers to improve my magazine and draw them again according to their comments. After the recording I uploaded the video on a computer, then opened it in MoviePlayer and imported it to my file. Then, I uploaded the video to my blog.

The first question I asked the students was "what do you think about the colours on the magazine?" to which they answered "I really like the choice of the colours, they are very attractive and out there. You followed the three colour rule". All three students gave similar response to this question therefore, I will not need to change the colours.

The second question I asked was that "are the articles on the magazine something you would read?" to which one of them replied "yes they are very interesting and related to pop genre" another one said "yes because they are and they are what teenagers would nowadays read" this means that I have related the articles to my target audience.

Another question I asked was that that "is there anything else you would like to see on he magazine?" to which they replied "yes I would like to see Justin Bieber and One Direction. Also I would like to see more interviews with with different celebrities and models". This means that I would need to add stories and pictures related to Justin Bieber and One Direction. Also I would need to include more exclusive interviews with celebrities and models.

The next question I asked was that "do you think the mastheads are appropriate if so why?" and they replied "the masthead is appropriate because its fun and interesting, its something I'd pick up because its bold and attractive and yes because its called 'pop sensation' and its a pop magazine". This shows that I wouldn't need to change the masthead so I'm going to keep it.

I also asked "is there anything you would change if so why?" and the first student answered "I wouldn't really change anything like the layouts are really good" whereas the second one said "I would like to change the layout of the double page spread because its too simple" and the third one said "I would add colour to the double page spread because it does not look like its from the same magazine". This suggests that I will have change the layout of the double page spread and ass colour to it to make it look more interesting and so that it looks like its from the same magazine.

And the last question I asked was "does the contents page and the double page spread stand out to you?" to which they replied "the contents page stands out but not the double page spread because the double page spread needs more colour and different layout". Taking these factors into account I would have to add colour to the double page spread and change the layout of it to make it attractive and so that it looks its from the same magazine as the cover and contents page.

Research and planning questionnaire questions

 Music magazine questionnaires

1.     Male or female

2.     Age

3.     Should I call my magazine Pop sensation, Vibe or Pop music?

4.     What colours do you associate with pop?

5.     Do you like pop music?

6.     What genre of music do you listen to?

7.     What age model should I use for my music magazine?

8.     What style do you think I should use for the magazine?

These are the questions I asked in my questionnaire to 10 people regarding my music magazine to help me create it in professional standards.

Research and planning double page spread analysis

This is a double page spread of a pop magazine, I know this is a pop magazine because of the bright colours like pink as this shows that it is a girly magazine. The layout of this magazine is very smart however, the writing is too small and the pictures are big which could indicate that the maker of the double page spread wants to focus more on the model as they have taken a medium close up of her which shows her beauty and emotion. The target audience for this double page spread is for young teenagers as the model is very stylish and her jewellery is very modern. Also in the little picture, the model looks to be holding headphones and listening to music which shows that it is from a music magazine and that she is interested in music. The 2 main colours used for this magazine are black, pink and white. These colours show style and they are feminine which shows that they are for teenage girls.

Research and planning contents page analysis

This is the contents page of the pop magazine called 'top of the pops'. I can tell this is a pop magazine contents page because of the models that are chosen who are 'one direction' and they are young pop stars. Also, the text styles chosen are very bold which suggests that this is a pop magazine. I think the audience of this contents page are teenagers of age 15 - 18 because the use of bright colours and images of young pop stars shows that female teenagers would be interested in this magazine. the layout of this contents page is very organized and colourful. Very simple colours like pink, yellow, black and white background  has been used so that all the text, images and boxes stand out. It also has sections on each topic so that audience can easily find their topic and navigate easily. It has four images, one is of one direction where they are looking directly at the audience. This helps the audience connect more with what they are reading. Other images used for advertisement reason are the pink high top shoe which is also feminine, the white top which have the writing cute shows that is is for younger teengers as they are potrayed to be cute. The masthead of this contents page is very girly and fun, it makes the reader want to see more as it is attractive and engages the reader.

Research and planning drafts of music magazine cover, contents page and double page spread

These are the first drafts of my music magazine cover and contents page. I have followed the three colour rule by using red for the title of the cover, black for the text and yellow for the price bubble. I used the same colours for the contents page.

This is the draft of my double page spread. This is the basic layout of the double page spread which includes the title, an image of the model at the left side and some stories at the right of the page.

Research and planning music magazine mastheads

These are 3 different mastheads I have created using Photoshop as a practice for my music magazine. I think I will use the second masthead because I like pop music and the font type I chose for this is 'bubblegum' which suits this type of title. The first masthead wouldn't suit my magazine because the font type makes it look like classical music which isn't what I want for my magazine. Also, the last masthead isn't suitable for my magazine because the word 'vibe' suggests loud music which isn't what am targeting for my magazine and the font style I have chosen also suggests loud and vibrant music.

Research and planning analysis of music magazine covers

I think the genre for this music magazine is pop music because the masthead clearly suggests this as the font style is bold and nice. Also, the use of an popstar as a model for the main image suggests this. The main image is a medium close up which clearly shows the model's expressions. And I think this magazine has been represented in a good way, your mood would change after seeing this because the model is smiling and lots of positive colours have been used to illustrate this. The layout of this magazine is very organised and easy to understand so the audience would engage with it easily and quickly. The audience for this magazine would be young adults and teenagers because most youngsters would be interested in this type of magazine and pop music.

This magazine is quite clearly a pop magazine as the masthead speaks for itself. The choice colours are very girlie and the layouts are very smart because there isn't too much text to confuse the audience therefore, I think the audience of this magazine would be youngsters and anyone who would be interested in pop music. Medium close up shot has been used so that the face expressions of the model can be seen and this model seems happy therefore, the magazine is representing positiveness though the use of image. Other images have been used too to show other stories inside the magazine instead of lots of text.

Research and planning collage

This is a collage I made of images and texts from existing magazines. I also wrote comments on the text styles, font styles, images etc.

Research and planning photo taken to add on the college magazine
